Ọmụgwọ | Victoria Ndubuisi

"Ọmụgwọ," an exhibition by artist Victoria Ndubuisi, invites viewers into the intimate and transformative journey of motherhood through a lens both personal and universal. The title, derived from the Igbo language of South-Eastern Nigeria, embodies the essence of nurturing—a vital process in which family and community come together to support a new mother in her early days of motherhood. In this solo exhibition, Ndubuisi, a new mother herself, explores the multifaceted experiences that lead to motherhood, from the early stages of pregnancy through childbirth and into the crucial moments that precede the Ọmụgwọ phase. During the exhibition opening, Victoria Ndubuisi will captivate audiences with a live performance that combines expressive body movements and dynamic paint manipulation, seamlessly merging visual art with the visceral energy of her creative process.

Memory is not static. It is tactile, layered, and ever-shifting; etched into the surfaces of our lives through material, texture, and form. Material Memory brings together the works of Anthony Azekwoh, Gbemileke Adekunle, and Saheed Adelakun, three artists who engage deeply with the physicality of memory, using material as both a medium and a metaphor for personal and collective histories.
